Chairman of Governors
Mark has been a governor since 1998 when he first joined Polehampton Junior School. He then became a parent governor at Kendrick School in Reading in 2004, subsequently joining the Interim Executive Board at Shinfield St Mary’s Junior School in 2010 where he became Chair and led the school out of Special Measures to Good in December 2013.
In September 2013 Mark was elected Chair of Governors at Whiteknights as the local authority governor, supporting and challenging the school’s journey from ‘Requiring Improvement’ to ‘Good’ as judged by Ofsted in September 2014.
Governor Services asked Mark to support other governors in Wokingham and he does this by acting as a mentor to new Chairs of Governors. He is a National Leader of Governance, and also an independent education consultant undertaking governance reviews of other school boards locally.
Mark’s huge contribution to school governance was recognised in the summer of 2014 when he was awarded an MBE for services to governance, and he also has a book published entitled ‘Effective School Governance’.
Velraj KuppusamyAssociate GovernorI am a Database Administrator at the Oracle Corporation in Reading. I was co-elected by the full governing body in September 2016. My younger son Adhvay studied at Whiteknights, and both my sons now study at Reading School. At Whiteknights I am currently designated as a Health and Safety governor. Being part of an experienced governing team is highly motivating and I enjoy contributing to the school's vision.
Nina EdwardsCo-opted GovernorI have two children, Rhys and Brooke, and I work at the University of Reading where I am responsible for the training and development of new teaching staff. My son Rhys started at Whiteknights in September 2012 and since then the School has made fantastic progress with a new headteacher and two Ofsted inspections taking place. I joined the governing body in December 2014, having been appointed by the full governing body. It was an exciting time to join, and I have enjoyed working with the pupils, parents and staff to help ensure that Whiteknights is the very best it can be. I am currently vice chair of the governing body, with responsibility for Development.
Bridget ReynoldsTeacher GovernorI have worked in Education for the past 18 years. Prior to this, I worked for the Civil Service and have been a childminder when my own children were young. As a qualified teacher for the past fifteen years alongside being a qualified SENCO for the past ten years, I feel that I can bring a wealth of experience regarding both teaching pedagogy and meeting the learning needs of the pupils at our school to the Governing Body. I am committed to ensure that our school continues to offer all pupils the very best start in life and that they can reach their full potential. I am looking forward to working as a governor and I hope that my contribution will help the school strengthen.
