Blast Off into Learning: Year 1’s Space Day Adventure
9th May 2025
Year 1 pupils had a stellar time during their recent Space Day—a hands-on enrichment experience linked directly to their history topic on space exploration and the life of Neil Armstrong.
The day began with astronaut training on the playground, where children navigated obstacle courses to prepare for a “mission to space.” After earning their training badges, they sampled astronaut snacks and learned about the types of food real astronauts eat in orbit.
Then it was time to board the “rocket,” count down, and launch into space. Other activities included moon sand crater play, constellation art, planet painting, and storytime with books like Whatever Next!.
Throughout the week, pupils also explored the Space Race, the life of Neil Armstrong, and the important role animals played in early space missions.
Year 1’s Space Day was a giant leap in learning—and a whole lot of fun.
