Reception Builds a Buzzing Bee Hotel for Their Garden
30th June 2025
Children in Crystal and Pearl Class have been hard at work this week, creating special bee hotels for their new bee-friendly garden.
As part of their Early Years topic, the children have been learning all about bees and the important role they play in nature. From exploring the life cycle of a bee to discovering how bees help pollinate plants so fruit and vegetables can grow, the pupils have developed a real appreciation for these tiny, hard-working pollinators.
They also found out that bees make their homes in all sorts of places – from tree hives and underground tunnels to hollow plant stems. Some bees, like mason bees and leafcutter bees, prefer small, individual spaces. That’s why a bee hotel is the perfect solution – providing solitary bees (and a few friendly bugs) with a safe place to rest and nest.
