Data Protection

We take the privacy of families seriously and take exhaustive measures to protect this. We ask for your permission to use photos of your children in school, and separately ask permission for your child's images to be used on public sites and Twitter. If you would like to see our Privacy Notice to help you understand how and why we collect your child's personal information and what we do with that information, then follow the link below.

The GDPR applies in all EU member states from 25 May 2018. This affects how schools manage personal data and how this is protected and shared. The GDPR aims to strengthen the protection of personal data in light of significant technological changes since the original Data Protection directive in 1995.

Originally, the UK relied on the Data Protection Act 1998, which was enacted following the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive, but this has been superseded by the new legislation. It introduces tougher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and gives people more say over what companies can do with their data. It also makes data protection rules more or less identical throughout the EU. When Great Britain leaves the EU, a mirrored version of the GDPR will be adopted through the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)/Data Protection Act 2018.

We have appointed a Data Protection Officer, who is responsible for overseeing data protection within the School. If you have any questions in regard to GDPR, please contact him on dpofficer@whiteknights.wokingham.sch.uk
